Cartoonist Notes
I actually drew the background before even having an idea of how I would make it into a cartoon with a punch line. I have a little red box with two stone balls about the size of a golf ball. I bought them when I was a teenager in Chinatown of Vancouver B.C. you roll the balls around each other in one hand. It is a relaxing and coordination building exercise. If you are a true master of the balls, you can roll them around each other without them touching. I however, lack the desire to become a master of the balls.
In any event the case has a fabric design that I roughly copied as the background. I was trying to think of something funny with a Chinese theme and Mu Shu Pork always seemed like a funny name to me.
I realize that this is a young pig complaining about verbal abuse and many people this day and age might not find it funny. Bullying is a big deal these days and has always been a problem. In my day, it sucked but you learned to cope with it. Everyone was ragged on and humiliated. Some more than others but you had to learn how to look the person who was making fun of you back in the eye and tell them to fuck off.
So if you are young and feeling bullied - in my opinion:
1. It is not right. 2. You don't deserve to be demeaned and shouldn't buy in to whatever crap is coming out of that persons mouth. 3. Let people know you are being bullied because you are not the problem, they are. 4. Tell them that they are actually the person with flaws and problems for needing to feel big by making fun of you. 5. forget their dumb asses and move forward with your life.
Now I have never been through official bully training response or anything, but that is what I would do. To me the cartoon is funny. Hey, if you can laugh at things like bullying or your own shortcomings, you sort of take away that problems power over you.
