Cartoonist Notes
My Take on Comics - from Blog post 3/8/2014
So cartoons have always given me joy. Once upon a time, the Sunday paper had glorious cartoons but newspapers have sort of gone away. I recently stumbled upon some sites that have people making and sharing cartoons. There are some great sites with really talented and funny artists. Now I'm not all that talented but the funny thing about cartoons is that you don't have to be a great artist, you just have to make them funny. Not saying I am hilarious, but I'm going to give it a try.
I thought, why not? Yes, I am a grown man but I have come to the realization that you need to make a little time for the things you love. Actually, cartoons have always held a strange importance in my world. I wont name off every cartoon I have loved over the years but the New Yorker cartoons, Calvin and Hobbes, and The Far Side stand out.
So I made a little box on a word document, came up with a name for the comic and printed it out. Sketch a cartoon in there and scan it as a picture. Post it on a website. It's pretty easy but you have to come up with ideas. I guess it's like life, you just give it your best shot and hope a few things will go your way.
Maybe other people will enjoy these little cartoons too and it can bring a little joy to the world. I hope maybe. You never know unless you try.
