My Take on Corporate Success
This was the last comic I drew using a Micron05 pen. You can tell the lines are very uniform. It lacks the distinction that a quill pen can give you. If you don't like spiders, you might find this comic more disturbing than amusing. Obviously the spider is wrapping up poor Bill to eat him on Wednesday. It's also a riff on how I find Corporate America. It took me a while to understand that when it comes to business, profit is the driving force. If you are a young professional starting out, you need to understand this to keep your sanity. Why was so and so let go even though they were doing a good job? Someone else could do it for cheaper. A decision comes down that seems like the dumbest thing you have ever heard? It's because of an accountant that has figured out a way to cut costs or find some tax savings. Sometimes common sense towards customers and a quality product is not enough. Put your personal feelings aside, it's about the bottom line. If you can find a boss or company where cutthroat, money driven decisions are not the deciding factor, congratulations. You have found a rare business. It might not last very long though.
I don't begrudge successful corporate types. They are doing what they have to in order to help themselves and their company be successful. Bottom line is you have to understand that even the seemingly craziest company moves are made for a reason. Try to understand that to keep yourself from feeling like you are taking crazy pills if you have a management team that does not clearly communicate reasons for their decisions.
