Cartoonist Notes
This is a cartoon that seemingly doesn't work for people. I put it on Reddit's comic site and someone asked me what the joke was. Like how is a drunk monkey throwing poo at a bartender even remotely funny. It made me think though. Monkey poo throwing is funny to me but is it at all clever. How could I have turned this comic into a better joke. Just drawing a funny clown or a goofy looking monkey isn't what people are looking for in a comic. It has to have a little clever twist to it for people to enjoy it.
Maybe the person who didn't like the comic was a bartender. I have a good pal who was a bartender for many years. He finally had to stop because he just got fed up with the drunk assholes at the bar. Apparently people who are drunk and dumb don't enjoy being told that they are cut off. They also don't enjoy when the bartender points out what idiots they are being. If a bartender really told customers what he or she was thinking, they wouldn't have jobs very long. Give your bartender some respect, they take a lot of crap from people who don't know how to be civil when they drink too much. If you order a fancy drink that takes skill to make, like a mohita - give an extra tip amount and tell them thanks for making it. If you can't appreciate the difference between a well made drink and a crappy one, why the hell are you ordering it in the first place. Bartenders see thousands and thousands of people at their less than perfect best. A good experienced bartender can see right through a guy acting tough or the lady yelling loudly and pretending like she is so hot. Just be yourself and make sure to tip the bartender well for putting up with your drunk ass, even if you are one of the better behaved drunks.
Anyway, back to the comic. I'm glad to get the feedback about my comics from people. Having someone look at what you do with a critical eye can help improve your process. I'm no great comic artist and I need to learn my deficiencies to improve Dudesbee.
