Cats... In... Spaaaace! I don't know exactly why but I asked myself one day what cats would be like in space. Would they run into any problems? A glaring complication appeared when I began to think about litterbox function. In the movies it seems like they have solved the lack of gravitational pull with rotating ship hulls, etc. I don't think anyone has cared enough to design a space craft that has gravity for the crew members. I wonder if doing so would allow people to last longer in space because they have to work out a lot to keep muscles from going into atrophy and turning astronauts into jellyfish when they arrive back on earth.
So the litter box would be a severe problem. maybe they could have the little cat litter pellets attached to little strings so they would stay in close proximity to the box. That still would not solve the problem of the poo floating about though. Perhaps you can think of a solution. I bet right now you are thinking, "What the hell am I doing reading about theoretical designs for a space cat litter box that is functional for traveling space cats." Well what if one day mice adapt to space travel? You would be hailed as the DaVinci of space litter boxes, allowing cats to hold back the space mouse problem and thereby preventing the spread of space plagues and food store depletion. I'd say that is pretty damn important. Pretty damn important indeed.
