MY MOTHER'S EYES
My mother's eyes look just like mine
In them you can discern
Untold emotions
One at a time
and without a word.
The greens and browns fade into blue
A weight of years
Can lift or cling
Questions pose an airy hue.
The pain and anger sing.
Expressions veil to untrained looks
What feelings ebb
Beneath her husk
and into mirrors we can see
Each other
Instantly.
